St. Mary's Center Senior Advocates for Hope and Justice are seniors of downtown and west Oakland. Some have been evicted, some are currently homeless.

  • Some are disabled:
  • Some struggle with mental illness and/or addiction
  • Most live on SSI (Supplementary Security Income) - $790 a month
  • SOme of us lived at St. Mary's Center winter shelter
  • Senior Advocates for Hope and Justice form community at St. Mary's Center.

Advocates organize themselves and other seniors, seeking to secure the basice human rights outlined in the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights: Basic human rights which have gone unmet in their personal experience. Their goal is to secure

  • Universal housing,
  • Medical care for all,
  • Food security for all.
